Requires the system to keep track of first-time and second-time offenders etc. Its just easier that its set up as "spamming? 72-hour ban" from a programmatical standpoint. Perfectly understandable. I suppose I can understand your point that the update notes could have said something about this, but you wont really get any sympathy from me. I'd have made it a week's ban lol. Seriously though, you had to have known you were crossing the line, right? I sell and buy all the time and never got banned.

Don't whine, it was clearly stated in the EULA*that u should not abuse the chat channels. you have spamming and spamming. Continuous Trade spam in genberal chat should result in ban. repeated in line spamming in trade should result in ban as wel, as it just forces people to spam more and more, as scroplling of the text goes way too fast. This ban regulation would result in only normal traders spamming in trade channel while the bad ones are automatically removed. Serves their right methinks. Spam sell is allready a bad enough way to trade, spamsquared sell should be banned, unfortunately the auction house aint coming.

Finally the day has come when people get banned for spamming to much.

I'm not saying you're a really bad spammer, but this means that the bad are/should be getting banned, which is good.

i'm calling b.s. on this.

its just reverse psychology to try to get people to stop spamming, by spreading rumors.

behavior modification through fear....only works on the weak minded.

i'm going back to lions arch to spam local chat.

I wonder how this code works. I have a fast computer with a raid array so I like to spam a one-liner in each district then pop-in to another district and do it again. I'll go to all the major towns and just spam one line, then on to the next. This way I can find that one guy that's looking for my item wherever he is. Hopefully this code doesn't discriminate against me that much, since I'm only spamming one line per district.

A raid array has no influence whatsoever on the game speed unless you need to load huge amounts of data, this is most likely not the case and just used data is usually cached.

lol. I really do doubt the OP made up the story. They sound unhappy they cannot play.

Anyway, its great to have a free test candidate. Please go do just this and report back if/when you get banned.

No sir.

I'm all for banning guys that abuse the local channel for selling.

However...Anet has a provision for controlling mass spamming. They have an automatic message suppresion function in place. If you have trouble following the WTS ads in the legitimate trade channel, go to a less populated district where you can find a market pace closer to your ability to follow.

Well deserved ban IMO.

I'm anxious about selling stuff now. I'm not a spammer, per se, and I do use the Trade channel but it seems that they're upping their strictness on the situation.

I think it's a good change but prior warning might be enough to scare people in to behaving properly.

I think it's a great call if you're caught doing things like that in local chat. I personally love Lions Arch D1 for the great conversations I have...
If I wanted to buy or sell something, I would check the trade chat (or once in a blue moon pressing 'P' lol) and mute local chat. People who have the trade chat muted have it on mute for a reason, no need to put your ads in local! tsk tsk!
If you're also temp-banned for having spammed your trade in trade chat, then I'm glad! Spam is spam no matter where you chat. Don't use the excuse of "well I can't sell my stuff because it gets spammed off!" - that's not resolving the spam problem

Sweet. I hope more people who clutter all chat with trade spam get temp banned until they actually stay in the trade channel. I'd love to actually be able to use all chat in major cities again.

Nothing against people who want to trade at all. But there's a channel for that. Please stay there. When I want to trade, I go to major city and turn it on. Otherwise I really don't care what you're buying or selling.

Prior warning?! lol you got to be joking? there has been plenty of warning. It is about time Anet pulled their collective finger out.

Yes there is. It's called a trade channel. Just because it isn't exactly what you want doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

What i meant by 'prior warning' is if they've become more strict with spammers then they should let people know via the welcome-screen message, forums, their own website, the Queen's Speech or some other medium.

I'm not excusing spammers but I reckon it would be considerate to declare a change of heart from ArenaNet's end. After all, spamming has been allowed for two years now.

Best GW news I've heard in a long time. Ban the spammers, ban the bots. I stand behind the movement with all 4 legs.

The excuse of using chat channel because more people see it doesn't fly. People not interested in buying shut off trade chat. So they are not part of your customer base even in all chat.

If you come to the forums complaining because ANet has started enforcing the rules, you are not going to find much sympathy except from other violators.

Go read the Merchant Guide in the Community Works forum. Learn to be a real trader instead of a professional nuisance.

As stated, this is the second thread so far, I expect there will be a lot more.

I think they could have banned you for something else other than spamming that much. If that is true, than we'll see less spammers everywhere.

I would move that we get ANet to allow for unlimited, unchecked spamming in AD1 of Kamadan, LA and Kaineng, but any spamming in any other districts receives a quick, decisive and lengthy ban without any warnings. Sacrifice the one district in the three towns (easy to avoid) for the sanity of the rest.
